In this high tech age there is no end of ways to communicate it seems; Facebook, MySpace, iPhone, internet, Twitter, my word, you can even call somebody on the regular telephone or heaven forbid, write a letter. My sister was so excited to give me her new email address at her home computer that she just got and I had to tell her that the reason I wasn't as quick to answer her emails was that I was spending so much time on facebook these days. Facebook? "What the heck is facebook?",cries she with much drama and chagrin. Laura Ingalls would be astonished at how far we've come in the 100 or so years since she was teaching the 3 R's in that little school house on the prairie.

I hope that with all our advancement we aren't losing touch with each other though. I wonder if when we see an old friend that we've been "facebooking" with for a few months or maybe years, will we feel as close as we would if we had actually been talking or maybe writing our words on actual paper and putting stamps on envelopes and carefully editing what we say to each other? Even the shorthand that we use when emailing or texting on cellphones seems to me a way of shortchanging our friends. I can't help but correct my spelling and try my best to use proper English. I feel like I owe my friends my best when I am communicating with them.

I guess all this comes from the fact that right in the midst of my new facebook obsession, I discovered a Tarrant High School website and spent a couple of hours today building a profile and searching for people I knew. Why are we so fascinated with finding our past? Maybe it has something to do with holding off the inevitability of the future and our own demise? Wow. That sounds like a dark thing when I really don't think I have a grave fear of the future, maybe the ravages of time, but not the eventual end of it all. I know how that is going to turn out and it will be glorious and much better than we have it here.

Didn't mean for this to turn into a rant. Auburn should get it's season in gear and maybe I'd be in a brighter mood!

OK. Well, if a lot hadn't happened since my last post it would just be sad. I got all hung up thinking that a blog was supposed to be all about the pictures because that was what my "girls" did the most. And for some reason it is almost impossible for me to load pictures with this thing, the infamous (at least in our family), MAC. I just spent 15 minutes trying to load my picture so that I wouldn't leave that little pointy haired silhouette on Beth and TJ's blogs to show that I am following them, to no avail.

But back to my initial thought. I am going to do what most bloggers to and that is just talk. TJ's blog is entitled "Even if no one is listening" and I am sure that is the case with this one, but hey, I can rant all I want to and probably do no harm, for once. Since May a ton of things have changed. For one, poor little Georgie is gone. No, not from this earth. Just from this house. I sent her to a friend while we went to the beach for a week with the kids. I thought 3 babies, 6 adults and a new puppy in a 3 bedroom condo on the 7th floor would be a bit much so my friend Darla was thrilled to dogsit. Well, they bonded big time. To the point that she slept in the bed with Darla instead of in her kennel, pooped all over Darla's house instead of getting taken out many times a day and staying in her kennel the rest of the time she was in the house, etc. and I would have had to start all over with the training and.......

Well, part deau of "everything has changed" is that Sarah, Jared and Ella moved to Rayville the week before we left for the beach and I have Ella on Monday, Thursday and Friday nights and usually other times in between with Mommy and Daddy and having 2 babies in the house would be quite the job. So I made the hard choice to let Georgie and Darla keep their love affair going. They are both thrilled. Her name is now Doodlebug, by the way. And she is much fancier now. Her ferret collar has "diamond" studs and she has a much fancier bag and of course, she sleeps with her new mama every night.

But I'm OK with it all because I have Ella! She is so much fun. We read and cook and play dress up. Our latest obsession is her Tutu. We haven't found anything that doesn't go well with a tutu. Tutu's and cargo pants are my current favorite. Although the tutu and Auburn cheerleader dress are a good combo as well. I'm just waiting for the day that she wants to wear the tutu to church and Sarah isn't around to say no. Gigi won't say no............

We had fun at the beach with all three of the grandbabies. I basically just stayed in the condo and played "rotating naps" which is fine with me as I don't do the beach. I wonder if they are ever going to take that into consideration when planning these family vacations? Probably not. Don't do sand, sun, salt water, heat, crowds. So where do we go every year. The beach. I guess I'm just outnumbered. My favorite vacation (for all of us) was when we went to the state park in Warm Springs, GA. I've probably said that 50 times, but nobody is listening. There was no TV, no phones, no restaurants. We played games, talked, went for walks, cooked, slept late. We probably couldn't recreate it. Especially with the babies, but I'd like to try. Actually, if you saw Dan in Real Life.....that's what I want! A big ole cabin and everybody playing charades and doing talent night and singing silly songs and acting a fool. Lord knows we got some fools!

I have discovered facebook. Now that is some fun. The only thing that would be better about it is if more people my age would do it. Probably 95% of my "friends" are under 30 and that's not right. I try not to talk to them too much unless they talk first. I don't want them to think I'm some creepy stalker. Sometimes I can't help myself. They say or do something that I have to comment on. And a couple of them want to "play" with me. I've been "kidnapped" about a dozen times by one of Sarah's childhood friends whose husband is deployed. I've also found out that I suck at Auburn trivia. But I keep at it. I will not quit till I get out of the basement. I have passed a lot of people, but I have to at least catch up to Beth. I have to help my team!

OK. Enough yammering. I don't have to say everything in one day.

I took Georgie to the vet today and she weighs in at a whopping 14 ounces! That's right, she's gained 4 ounces. What a bruiser. She's doing well, I know you'll all be so encouraged.

I am doing this without the consent of my parents, but they can't get their silly MAC to download pictures onto their blog, so I am doing it for them. Here are the pictures of Georgie (mama's new long-haired chihuahua). She is the most adorable thing ever! You should probably sit down for the first picture, because if you know anything about my dad you know that he "hates" animals. Well, apparently not this one. He said he couldn't hate anything so small. I don't know how to line the captions up with the pictures right so I'll just put them all here. The first picture is Georgie in Daddy's shirt pocket. Apparently she slept in his pocket while he was eating dinner! The second picture is obviously Georgie sleeping on Mama. The third picture is Georgie going for a walk in what looks like the back yard. I just thought everyone might like to see the pictures of my sweet little "Aunt" Georgie!

Well, since my last post I have been to Orange Beach, Mobile, Birmingham and Baton Rouge. And that was just in a month. Man, I am tired. The Orange Beach trip was a girl trip, my first ever, just for fun, all girlfriend trip. Hard to believe. And toe never touched sand nor sun face. It was strictly eatin' and shoppin'. It really was a lot of fun and a good bonding experience with a new group of friends. Some stuff happened that caused some pretty intense sharing/bonding to occur. Family health issues and such. Also I was inducted into the world of Picino (sp) a card game that I had never heard of before coming to Louisiana but is all the rage here among the female set. It was fun and definitely brought out my competitive side, but not in a bad way, fortunately.

Then it was home to get ready for the Sarah/Ella visit. We were so excited and the visit was almost as fabulous as we had hoped it would be. The down side and it was definitely down was that my precious nephew, Brian died at the beginning of the trip and thus the Birmingham swing. We did go ahead and do an abbreviated Mobile visit to get Sarah's hair done with Joe. Crazy what you will do to get the hair you want. Come from Indiana to Louisiana then drive to Mobile...........for a haircut. Well, we did eat at some of our favorite places, see Mark, spend some quality time with my friend Dayle and eat at Brett Farve's favorite restaurant, Leatha's in Hattiesburg on the way home. Come to think of it, the whole visit was pretty much about eating. BTW, Sarah, I gained 3 pounds, how did you do?

Then we loaded our little traveler up and went to B'ham for the sad trip. We did enjoy parts of it. I saw some people I haven't seen since my 10 year high school reunion. Man, it's too bad they have changed so much. You don't think I have do you? It's a good thing I have these trick mirrors in my house. We enjoyed our time with my nephew Gregg and his sweet wife Sharron and watching them trying to indoctrinate Ella in the ways of Alabama football. Don't they know that stuff is genetic? She is Auburn by birth!

Then Kerry had a meltdown when we had to put Sarah and Ella on the plane home and was trying to figure out when we could get to Indiana between now and June when we all meet for our family beach trip. He is one smitten PopPop. I think if we lived near our grandchildren I would never see him and my kids would be calling me to make him come home! Not that I don't share the sentiment. I'm just better at controlling it, I think. I express it by spending money on expensive gifts! I'm looking at some really cute clothes right now. Don't worry TJ, I know I can't get any of that stuff for Anderson. It's not "cool" enough. I'll just have to wait till I can buy him a guitar, I guess.

So then we packed again (!) and hiked down the road to Baton Rouge for a one 1/2 day trip to pick up an award for the hospital. Kerry said it wasn't a huge deal, but at this point, any award is big enough, so we went to collect. Once again, we found good food in the form of a little local place with a lot of flavor and atmosphere. So that was life for the last month. What's next?

I'm gettting a new baby for early Mother's Day! A long-haired Chihuahua. I'll keep you posted on the progress.

How could I have forgotten the most fun "meeting" at the airport?? Well, I didn't actually meet him........but I was on the plane with Snoop Dog! For real! His posse and all. That's right, me and Snoop. On the flight from B'ham to Atlanta. What's funny is I saw later that he was picked up Wednesday night in NYC for marijuana posession so that means that he must have flown from Atlanta to New York and probably had the stuff on him when I saw him (actually had to move my feet out of the way in the terminal in B'ham so he could pass). Let me testify that he is one skinny dude, however, his posse is not. Those are some big guys.

OK. I'm going to give this posting thing a shot. Since the last thing I have been galavanting. Big surprise. We saw Sarah, Jared and Ella in Montgomery in February which was all kinds of fun. OK. 1 is an extremely fun age. She repeats every word she hears (and I do mean every word, Pop Pop, so watch it). He got to feed her her first chocolate ice cream, much to her mama's chagrin at 11 that night when she was trying to get her to go to sleep! But it was a great weekend with them and all the other McCrory's for Ella's first birthday party. Baked the requisite birthday cake, which I am now becoming famous for.

Then I got home and got ready for my birthday trip to California. Woo Hoo! I flew out of Birmingham so that I could combine a visit to my mama and my nephew Brian. Got to see Brian but not Mama. The old folks at the "home" were on lockdown because of the flu and she was fit to be tied. The weather was foul in California for almost the whole time and I swear, I never got warm (I must have raised a polar bear in TJ), but the company was great if the weather wasn't so welcoming. I just hate that I didn't get to see the largest Chinese New Year's celebration outside Asia. I can't seem to convince these people that they are living in a remarkable place and they need to see this stuff. But then who am I to talk. We lived in Mobile for 13 years and I never saw the USS Alabama or Bellengrath Gardens..........

I did get to see Mama on the way back, by the way. And had another great visit with Brian.

Oh, and on my travels I met some interesting people. Let's see, there was the woman on her way to meet her husband in Frankfurt, Germany. She was very nice, and hoping to meet someone like me on the flight from Atlanta to Frankfurt. Good luck on that one. I hope she didn't get a seatmate like the one I had from Oakland to Atlanta who wouldn't make eye contact. I think she thought I was the Unibomber or something. Then there was the total nutjob in the Atlanta airport who told me that the FBI gave her a video of Barak talking to Farakahn (sp?) about taking over the US and all about the "mud people", all while I was sitting next to and across from these extremely, shall we say non-white people............I was more than a little uncomfortable and very glad that I took the "bump" for the $200 credit and didn't have to board the flight with her! But best of all was the guy who told me TJ needed to be in CA because the folks out there needed Jesus a lot! And then as we were deplaning in B'ham gave me his card and said if he was ever interested in a mission trip, he should email him and he could hook him up with a "people group" in Tibet! As soon as he said People Group, I knew he must be Baptist and sure enough, on his card, he had written IMB. I came home and looked at his website and it's so cool. You should go look. www.nomadruss.com Anyway, I told him that was the other child and that I would definitely put them in touch with him. So much for my adventures in airports.

Now I'm at home and socializing with Rayville. First day back and there is a birthday coffee for the little old lady that walks the neighborhood every day putting everybody's paper at their doorstep. Every single day before 7AM. Only one day since we've been here has it not been right at the front door and I think she might have been out of town that day and I was like, "What the heck? I have to walk all the way to the end of the sidewalk? What is up with that?" But it was fun. Bunch of the neighbors and some I hadn't met yet, so it was good. OK. I'm going to shut up and see if I can post this now. Maybe if it works, one day I'll figure out how to do pictures.
